Driver airlifted to Derriford with serious injuries after crash on Cornwall's A30

Police have confirmed a driver suffered serious injuries after a crash on Cornwall’s A30.

The casualty was airlifted to Derriford after a car hit the central reservation near Indian Queens.

Firefighters say the vehicle had caught fire after the collision, which also involved a tractor trailer.

It happened just before 3pm on Thursday afternoon (29th July) and closed the road for several hours.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews from Bodmin and St Austell attended a call to an RTC involving a car, tractor and trailer.

"One car was in the central reservation on crews arrival and equipment was used to release one casualty trapped in the wreckage.

"The car was originally on fire but had been extinguished by members of the public prior to the fire service's arrival.

"Once extricated firefighters helped provide a screen for the casualty whilst being treated by paramedics".

Devon & Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something at around 2.45pm to come forward.

"On Thursday 29th July 2021 at approximately 1445 hours, police, ambulance and fire were called to a road traffic collision on the A30 at Indian Queens.

"Two vehicles were involved in the incident which caused serious injuries to one of the drivers. This driver was airlifted to Derriford Hospital by the air ambulance.

"Officers attended the incident and commenced an investigation of the scene to establish the cause of the collision.

"There was widespread traffic congestion in the area and police would like to thank the members of public for their patience and co-operation.

"Any witnesses who were in the area at the time of the collision who may have dashcam footage of the incident are asked to please telephone 101, quoting log 518 29th July 2021".
