Driver dies after serious crash on A30 - close to Cornwall border

A recovery truck and a tractor collided at Lifton, closing part of the road for over eight hours

A driver has died after a serious crash on the A30, just over the Cornwall border.

A recovery truck and a tractor collided at Lifton on Saturday afternoon.

Sadly, the truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The front seat passenger suffered serious injuries and is believed to have been airlifted to Derriford Hospital. The tractor driver was uninjured.

Police, paramedics and the Devon Air Ambulance were called to the scene just before 1pm.

The road was initially closed in both directions and the westbound carriageway remained closed for over eight hours.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw the collision, or who has any dashcam footage, to come forward.

"At approximately 1244hrs on Saturday 6th March 2021, a two-vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the westbound A30 dual carriageway. The collision involved an Iveco Daily recovery vehicle and a tractor.

"As a result of the collision, the driver of the Iveco Daily was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The front seat passenger sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Derriford Hospital. The Tractor driver was uninjured.

"Local officers as well as Officers from the Alliance Roads Policing Team attended the scene.

"Once a forensic investigation had been conducted the road was re-opened.

"Any persons who witnessed the collision or has information regarding it – in particular any dashcam footage are asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting log number 408 of the 6th March 2021.

"Police would like to thank the members of Public for their patience whilst we investigated the scene".
