Driver arrested for allegedly trying to 'run over' police officer in Bodmin

PS Honeywell suffered an injury to her knee and was badly shaken.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH and dangerous driving after she is alleged have attempted to run over a police officer in Bodmin.

At around 10pm on Saturday 17th October PS Honeywell was carrying out a foot patrol in the town centre, when she became aware of a car being driven in an anti-social manner, revving the engine loudly and screeching tyres.

The officer stopped the vehicle in Fore Street and started to speak to the driver, who then drove away, attempting to run over the officer, who it appears was extremely lucky to have only been struck a glancing blow by the car.

Officers later located the vehicle which was seized for examination, however the driver initially could not be found.

On Sunday 18th October a 19 year old female from Bodmin was arrested on suspicion of attempted GBH and dangerous driving. She has been interviewed and released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

PS Honeywell was badly shaken by the incident and has suffered an injury to her knee.

A number of witnesses were present and assisted the officer at the time of the incident. Police say they would like to thank these people for their help.
