Donut, the kitten has died after short battle with infection after being found lost, cold and alone.

The three week old black and white kitten was found was found in a garden after a local lady heard a noise and discovered her. After looking for her mum with no success, the little one was brought to the local vets and with nobody coming forward as the kittens owner, she came up to National Animal Welfare Trust.

She was initially very weak, we do not know how long she had been away from her mum. Staff worked with her every day and night since her arrival.

On arrival it was noted that Donut's eyes were looking gunky and needed regular cleaning. After further monitoring and a visit from the vet, it was discovered that Donut was blind.

On Friday late afternoon her health took a sudden and rapid decline. She was assessed by Animal Vets in Hayle, and later by C-Vets emergency Vets. Both NAWT Staff and the Vets did everything we could for her but sadly, despite all our efforts, she was too weak to fight anymore.

A spokesperson from NAWT said: "It is a truly sad day here at the centre. Although it is one of the realities of Rescue and working with animals, it never gets any easier. We spend so much time getting to know each one that comes through our doors, and love them like our own."
