A dog has been rescued from the coast path in north Cornwall will the help of half a sausage roll.

Working dog Henry disappeared amongst undergrowth in The Strangles area, north of Boscastle, on Friday 8th April.

Two off-duty members of the Boscastle Coastguard Team contacted the owners and used their personal drones to try and relocate him.

They searched amongst the heavy gorse, tough terrain with fissures all within the area the dog was last seen.

After around two hours of searching the area with the two drones and a visual search, there was no sign of Henry.

Taking in the fact the terrain, and that nothing had been heard or seen for over 24 hours, the owner accepted that Henry had more than likely fallen down one of many of these fissures and not made it.

But..

On Sunday the 10th of April at 17:46 Boscastle Coastguard were paged along side Bude Coastguard Rescue Team to reports of a dog that had been heard and found approx 20ft down one of these tight fissures near to where Henry was last seen.

A quick discussion was made amongst the teams and the best method of extraction was to set up a rope rescue kit.

Once set up, a cliff technician was sent down to retrieve Henry with half a sausage roll and some treats.

The Boscastle Coastguard Team said: "After approximately 30 minutes of shuffling and squeezing and some lassoing, we managed to get a lead around the dog and pull him up to safety to the obviously overjoyed and happy owners.

"Once all kit was stowed away and everyone happy, the teams were all stood down."
