A dog has been rescued following a house fire in Cornwall.

Firefighters got the shout to St Stephen just before 2pm on Wednesday afternoon (6th October) amid reports of smoke coming from a window and an alarm sounding.

It was feared that there could be people trapped inside the building.

Crews put out the kitchen blaze and confirmed that all residents were accounted for.

A dog was also rescued by firefighters.

A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "On the initial call stating that alarms were sounding and smoke was seen coming out of a window, appliances from St. Austell and St. Dennis were mobilised along with two officers.

"On arrival the incident was upgraded to 'persons reported', a further appliance from Newquay was mobilised, teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered a two storey semi detached dwelling and located a fire in the kitchen on the ground floor and extinguished.

"All persons were accounted for. One dog was rescued by fire service personnel."
