A dog has been reunited with its owner after falling 10ft down a mine shaft on the Cornish coast.

Firefighters and specialist line rescue crews got the shout to Porthtowan on Saturday afternoon.

A team member was lowered down into the mine shaft and managed to rescue the pet.

Luckily the animal wasn't hurt.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Specialist line rescue crews from Tolvaddon attended a call to a dog which had gone down an adit and then fallen down a mine shaft.

"Firefighters used a safe system of work to lower one firefighter 10 ft down into the mine shaft and rescue the dog.

"The animal was recovered unhurt and returned to its owner."
