A dog has died after falling over cliffs on the Cornish coast.

Coastguard crews rushed to help between Poldhu and Gunwalloe, on the Lizard, on Saturday night.

A rope technician was drafted in but sadly the pet did not survive. The dog was recovered for its owners.

Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team said: "Team paged at 20:30 last night to a report of a dog over the cliff near Poldhu and Gunwalloe.

"The team sent a rope technician over the cliff to recover the dog for their owners, unfortunately the dog didn’t survive the fall.

"Both teams were stood down and returned to station by 22:30. Many thanks thanks to Porthleven CRT for their assistance on the shout.

"If you see someone you think is in trouble on the coast or at sea, call 999 and ask for the coastguard."
