Fire breaks out at derelict pub in Newquay

Firefighters have been battling flames after a blaze broke out at a derelict pub in Newquay.

They got the shout to the Lane area at 2pm on Wednesday afternoon and it is understood to be the old Kings Head pub.

Crews from Newquay, Perranporth and St Austell were all on the scene and dealing with the incident.

There was said to be slow traffic in the area and Go Cornwall Bus tweeted to say the fire was causing disruption to services.

The cause of the blaze is believed to be arson and police have been told.

"Critical Control received multiple calls to a fire in a derelict pub.

"Appliances from Newquay, St Austell and Perranporth and two Flexi Duty Officers are currently in attendance dealing with the fire using breathing apparatus, hosereel jets and main jets.

"Police and Ambulance are also in attendance."

Update at 3.55pm: "The fire is now extinguished and the cause was believed to be arson and the Police have been informed."
