A single mum from a village near Truro is praising her daughters for their fast response in calling 999, when she passed out and wouldn't wake up.

Kelly Garrett from Trispen has type 2 diabetes and on Tuesday 4 July she suffered a hyperglycaemic episode.

Her girls, Isla, 7, and Lucy, 4, worked together to call 999 from her phone and asked for an ambulance.

Kelly said: "I picked the girls up from school and brought them home and I did tell them I wasn't feeling very well.

"I was sitting on the sofa drifting in and out of sleep and then at some point I must've lost consciousness because the girls weren't able to wake me up. They told me that they were screaming and shouting and trying to wake me up.

"Isla took my phone and phoned 999. She got through to the control room and asked for an ambulance. My 4-year-old was helping. The dispatcher advised the girls to go next door and ask a neighbour for help.

"My next-door neighbour came around and at that point I gained consciousness again and within 10 minutes the ambulance had arrived."

Kelly says she's "immensely proud of them": "I've spoken to them about it frequently. They managed to tell the ambulance controller our address, which I thought was amazing.

"I really am so proud of what they did. My next-door neighbour said they didn't panic, they were very calm, they just did the right thing. They really looked after each other and they looked after me and I dread to think what would've happened if they hadn't got help for me.

"It was the first time that they've ever had to do this, I think they handled the situation brilliantly."
