Forestry England says an 'illegal rave' in north Cornwall produced enough waste to fill SIX skips and "left a trail of vandalism in its wake".
It says teams began the clear-up operation at Davidstow Woods on Monday 6th June, after the three-day event over the Jubilee weekend.
The organisation has also said a specialist contractor will be required to remove the waste, "potentially leaving the forest closed to visitors until early August".
Forestry England has been approached by local groups and businesses offering to help with the clear-up but is asking the public not to pick up litter or other items for their own safety.
On Monday, Devon & Cornwall Police said around 1,000 people attended the gathering amid complaints of music keeping residents awake at night.
Forestry England forester for Cornwall, Reuben King, said: "Unfortunately, we are called out to deal with this type of inconsiderate behaviour far too often.
"After the fun has ended for a few thousand people, we will be here for several days tidying up hazardous waste, including human excrement and drug equipment, and repairing vandalised gates. But the impact on nature is more long-lasting.
"Numerous fires have been set across the forest, delicate verges have been damaged by vehicles, and wildlife has been disturbed during the peak of bird nesting season.
"Any parent birds that have abandoned nests in fear will not return to their offspring now.
“We are sorry for the inconvenience to the local community, who can’t access their favourite walks while we are clearing up, although we recommend Wilsey Down or Roughtor in the meantime".
Reuben added: "We appreciate numerous offers to assist with the clear-up but ask members of the public not to pick up waste or litter for your own health and safety.
"We are working hard to make Davidstow safe again and will re-open the forest as soon as we can".
