Photos have revealed the scale of a huge barn fire in a village in east Cornwall.

Flames tore through the building at St Ive in the early hours of Saturday (August 21st).

It was full of hay and vehicles and, sadly, almost completely destroyed.

Firefighters from Liskeard and Callington took the initial call, before calling in back-up from St Dennis to Saltash.

They were battling the blaze for several hours, using high pressure hose reel jets.

Posting on social media, Callington Community Fire Station confirmed that, luckily, everyone was safe.

Callington CFRS said: "2 appliances from Callington along with Liskeard, Saltash Community Fire Station, 2 x water carriers from Liskeard & Wadebridge and the ICU from Launceston, were mobilised to a barn fire at St Ive.

"On arrival the barn was well alight, containing machinary, vehicles and hay.

"Crews quickly got to work removing what could be salvaged whilst using hose reel jets and main jets to limit escalation and fire spread".

Shortly before 7am, the team added: "The incident has now been scaled down, leaving 2 pumps and a water carrier. Crews currently damping down and monitoring the hay as it is being allowed to burn out with supervision.

"Many thanks to St Dennis Community Fire Station for the attendance of the welfare wagon. A very much needed coffee for all persons in attendance".

After 8am, they posted: "A relief crew from St Austell Community Fire Station will monitor the remaining hay burn throughout the day. The final initial appliance on scene from Callington is now returning to home station".
