Crowds flock to Royal Cornwall Show
Thousands are expected to attend the annual three-day event
Crowds are gathering at the Royal Cornwall Showground for the first day of the three-day event.
Organisers say they expect to see "thousands" of people flocking to the site for the agricultural show.
Chris Riddle, secretary of Royal Cornwall Show, said: "We're ready to be going, it's looking good, lots of things set up on site ready for people - it's going to be a very busy event.
"It's a long day, you can be here from very early in the morning, gates open for ticket holders at 8 o'clock, and trade stands go on till 6.30 and beyond."
There was relief for organisers earlier this week when it was revealed a proposed closure of the A30 during the show wouldn't be going ahead - but Chris tells us roads are still going to be busy.
"Please be patient - our car parking teams work very hard and get people into car parks very quickly, but there is a lot of traffic on the roads, it's a busy time."
Christopher Riddle, ARAgS, will leave his role in September 2024.
He is only the ninth person to hold the position of secretary since the formation of the Cornwall Agricultural Society in 1793 (later changed to the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association in 1858).
Chris first started to work for the Association in 1979, and was appointed as assistant secretary in 1985, before taking over the role of secretary from his father Albert Riddle in 1989.
