A crochet crown created for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee has been returned after it went missing from the top of a post box near Redruth.

Local grandmother Danni Wills is part of the Pool Community Action Group on Facebook.

She crocheted a Christmas topper to fit on the post box outside the Pool Spar Shop last year and was astounded at the number of comments they received. So she decided to do the same for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Danni said: "I decided that I would go all out and make a red, white and blue blanket and top it off with a kind of replica of the Queen's crown. It came out so big that you could wear it. I secured it to the post box last Thursday with the hope it would remain in situ."

Danni spent a month hand-sewing jewels onto her creation and is was secured in place last week. But on Sunday morning it was gone.

She added: "On Saturday night there were some youths mucking around it and the man who owns spar got rid of them. On Sunday morning it was gone.

"Luckily, we have some CCTV footage showing a very drunk couple. The man was all over the place but went up and grabbed the whole thing and put it on his head and his partner was taking pics of him.

"It would make me laugh if they hadn't stolen it or it hadn't taken me a month to make as I had to hand sew gems all over it.

"Really we'd just love to have it back for the weekend. We wont be horrible about it it would just be great to have it back."

Following her appeal on social media, Danni has confirmed that the crochet crown has been safely returned in time for the Jubilee weekend.
