Crash shuts stretch of Cornwall's A30 and causes "substantial damage"

A crash that closed a busy stretch of the A30 in Cornwall is said to have caused substantial damage.

A car hit the central reservation on the eastbound stretch at Bodmin just after 8.30am on Tuesday (15th February).

National Highways South West says it has caused "substantial damage", along with a "large amount of debris".

Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the male driver has been taken to Derriford Hospital to be checked over.

Officers say a van was was also damaged when it was hit by debris from the car.

The eastbound carriageway was shut and traffic was being diverted through Bodmin.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "The debris from the collision was scattered across both carriageways.

"Police managed the traffic westbound, which was clear just after 9am.

"All open and clear by 10.45am."

It has been confirmed that the road has now reopened.

At the time of the crash National Highways said: "Devon & Cornwall Police are on scene and have confirmed there is substantial central reservation barrier damage along with a large amount of debris.

"National Highways service providers have been requested to attend the scene".
