The collision happened in the early hours of Saturday, between the junctions for Perranporth and Shortlanesend.
National Highways South West says emergency repairs are being carried out and the road is likely to remain shut throughout the morning.
Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "A30 in both directions closed. Delays due to accident and fallen power cables between B3284 (Perranporth turn-off) and A30 (Goonhavern/Shortlanesend turn-off). Congestion to the road that runs between Shortlanesend and Zelah which is not suitable for large vehicles.
"The road has been closed since the early hours after a car knocked down a telegraph pole".
National Highways South West says: "The A30 near Truro is closed in both directions between the A39 (Carland Cross) and A390 (Chiverton Cross), following a single vehicle collision. As a result cables from a telegraph pole have come to rest across the road.
"Devon and Cornwall Police are at the location and managing the incident.
"A BT Engineer is attendance and working to repair the cables. This will be a protracted repair and it is likely the road will be closed throughout the morning.
"Devon and Cornwall Police are directing traffic via local routes.
"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.
"Plan ahead; you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey".
