A busy stretch of Cornwall's A38 has been closed in both directions following a serious crash.

Police say two cars have collided in the Two Waters Foot area in south east Cornwall.

Three people are believed to be injured and officers, paramedics and the air ambulance are all on the scene.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 3.25pm today (1st February) following a serious collision between two cars on the A38 at Two Waters Foot, Liskeard.

"Three people are believed to be injured.

"Fire, ambulance and the air ambulance are also in attendance.

"The A38 is blocked and closed in both directions.

"Road closures are in place at Dobwalls roundabout and Turfdown, plus Doublebois westbound.

"Motorists are asked to avoid the area for the time being."

As of 6.45pm this evening (1st January) the road is still closed.

Inrix Traffic and Travel says: "A38 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident investigation work between the Looe turn off and the St Neot turn off."

National Highways have confirmed that the road is likely to remain closed for a 'significant' amount of time due to the severity of the crash.
