A cow has been rescued from a mineshaft by firefighters in Cornwall.

Crews were called to Castle an Dinas, St Columb, to rescue a cow who had fallen approximately 20 metres down a mineshaft.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue services at St Dennis were mobilised along with specialist line rescue equipment from Bodmin and Tolvaddon at 15.37 on Thursday 17 June.

Firefighters created a safe working area and set up a retrieval system. The animal was initially assessed by the lowering of one firefighter into the shaft and a second firefighter was then committed and the animal sedated.

The animal was lifted to safety out of the mine shaft and it left in the care of the farmer and vet on scene.
