There is a warning that Cornwall is facing a 'staffing crisis' in tourism and hospitality as we face one of our busiest summers.

The Cornwall Association of Tourist Attractions says it means many businesses are having to operate with reduced numbers.

Tourist attractions across Cornwall are calling for considerate behaviour as the sector fully reopens.

They are taking the next steps towards recovery this week as many remaining restrictions are lifted– but are calling on the public to take sensible precautions and be considerate of staff and other visitors as they enjoy their day out.

The government’s roadmap out of lockdown has seen Cornish visitor attractions take steps towards throughout the spring and early summer - but this latest announcement means all attractions are now free to lift many remaining restrictions and increase visitor numbers at their discretion.

Despite the freedom given to businesses to remove measures put in place during the height of the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of Cornish attractions will be keeping some measures in place to ensure the safety of their staff and visitors.

Advance booking to manage visitor flow, reduced visitor numbers on site and heightened cleanliness measures look set to remain for most attractions. Mask wearing in indoor areas and busy outdoor areas will be strongly recommended, and PPE measures for staff will remain in many organisations.

“With the arrival of Freedom Day, we’re delighted that all of our attractions are now able to reopen fully and welcome visitors safely. However, we know that Cornwall is going to be incredibly busy this summer and we urge all visitors to be mindful of the safety and wellbeing of others around them.

“Cornwall is experiencing a staffing crisis in tourism and hospitality as well as one of our busiest summers, meaning that many attractions are operating with less staff than normal.

"We can’t wait to welcome our visitors back this summer, and we will be working hard to make sure you have a great – and safe – day out, but we need everyone to play their part in acting responsibly and with consideration.”

Visitors should check attraction websites before planning their visit and should try to book their visit in advance where possible. They can check safety measures and recommendations on all attraction websites.

Cornwall Association of Tourist Attraction works closely with other bodies in the sector, including Visit Cornwall, to ensure visitor attractions are following recommended advice and guidance.

Cornwall Association of Tourist Attractions works with almost 40 of Cornwall’s top tourist attractions, ensuring the best visitor experiences are promoted across the region. They act as the voice of the Cornish visitor attraction industry and provide a supportive industry network for those working in the sector.
