People heading out to work or on the school run this morning in Cornwall are being urged to take extra as snow has made some roads impassable overnight.

Devon and Cornwall Police is urging people to drive carefully and only head out if necessary with snow showers sweeping across the country.

There have been reports of a number of roads being completely blocked, including the A30 near Newquay, the A39 at Trispen and A391 at Bugle.

Some lorries and cars have found themselves stuck in the snow overnight.

Just before 4.30am, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “We’ve had reports that vehicles are getting stuck in snow on the A39 at Trispen and A391 at Bugle.

“Please take extra care on the roads as driving conditions are hazardous. If necessary, pull over if it is unsafe to continue.”

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), a Government health agency, issued a level three cold alert on Monday in response to “severe winter weather”.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice across Cornwall until 10am this morning.

It says rain, sleet and snow, followed by icy stretches could lead to some travel disruption.

The Met Office has said all of England will continue to experience cold weather until 9am on Friday.

A number of schools across Cornwall are closed today. You can find a full list here.
