Cornwall's seal pup hospital still admitting sick and injured seals late in season
British Divers Marine Life Rescue says that is very unusual for this time of year and the latest two have taken this season's total to 137
Cornwall's seal pup hospital is still admitting sick and injured seals and has described that as very unusual for this time of year.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue has confirmed two are being cared for right now.
Lancelot was admitted with a bad stomach upset, while medics believe Spartacus has a condition called lungworm and a nasty cough.
The most recent admissions have taken the total number for this season so far, to 137!
The team recently smashed its £30k target to build a new dedicated seal hospital, that will have double the capactiy of the existing facility.
BDMLR is aiming for it to be built in mid-Cornwall, in time for the next rescue season.
All extra donations and fundraising efforts will help towards equipment, training, resources and the ongoing care of the group's rescued seal pups.
"When they're giving birth to their pups around late-August/September is when we usually start to get our call-outs coming in.
"The new hospital will have ten pens in it altogether for seal pups. We'll have a prep area and food storage. We'll also have an office for out vet to work from. Also, very excitingly, a classroom that we can use for training and education".
Dan Jarvis, British Divers Marine Life Rescue
