Cornwall has clinched a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, after Molly Caudery from Redruth finished second in the women's pole vaulting.

It is the 22-year-old's first major senior championship medal, adding it has not sunk in yet.

Speaking to our reporter Josh Kerr, who has been at the Games, Molly described winning the medal as surreal.

She added: "This crowd is the gift that keeps on giving. It's been the most surreal experience but I've loved every single second of it.

"We all dream of being on the podium and the medals but it's never quite come through for me yet. This is my first senior medal and that means so much to me".

The athlete also spoke about a recent freak accident at the gym, in which she almost lost a finger!

Molly said: "I actually chopped my finger off earlier this year - like 90% of the way - so to make a recovery back from that I had three surgeries, three months off and as a pole vaulter you need your hands so it was quite significant.

"It really means a lot to me just to be out here in front of a home crowd that were incredible and carried me the whole way through and I'm excited for my last competition of the season in Europe - the Europeans".

She said she would be celebrating by going out with her family, before adding: "I'm going to enjoy this moment for the next couple of days then refocus for the rest of the season".
