A Cornwall MP has written to Chancellor Rachel Reeves to demand why the county has been left out of the government's plans for transport.

On Wednesday (June 4th), Reeves announced a framework to overhaul transport, worth around £15 billion.

Several areas within the South West are set to benefit from the vital injection of funds, including plans for Bristol and the surrounding environs of Gloucestershire and Somerset.

However, Cornwall was seemingly left out of the plan, resulting in North Cornwall MP Ben Maguire writing to Reeves to ask why funds would not be coming to the county.

In his letter, the politician said: "We are extremely disappointed that your announcement of over £15bn of funding for transport infrastructure across the UK leaves Cornwall, a region in dire need of transport upgrades and increased investment, entirely overlooked in your transport investment plans."

He added that despite having a population of 600,000 - Cornish people are spread out across the county, requiring a need for better transport networks.

Maguire went on to urge the Chancellor to "reconsider your transport investment plan" to include the county, saying that residents deserve "a reliable, affordable and integrated public transport system".

The Chancellor has yet to respond to the letter offered by the MP.
