A man from Cornwall has been arrested after a car was spotted going the wrong way down the M6.

Lancashire Police say the vehicle travelled five junctions on Saturday night (11th September), before being stopped by a stinger.

A 78-year-old man from Truro had his licence revoked before being released on bail while officers carry out more enquiries.

The Lancashire Roads Policing Team tweeted: "On 11/09/21 this vehicle was reported travelling the wrong way on the M6 from Jct 34.

"Patrols intercepted at Jct 33 but it avoided tactical contact. Stinger was deployed at Jct 28 and then Jct 27 finally bringing the car to a halt.

"A 78yr old male from Truro has been arrested".

They then posted: "This male has now been bailed whilst we conduct some additional enquiries that need to be done before we can charge him".

The team later tweeted: "This was certainly all hands to the pump to get this vehicle stopped before it caused a serious collision", adding it was a "combined effort" of several policing teams that led to a "safe conclusion".
