Cornwall Council has cancelled and postponed meetings following the death of Her Majesty The Queen, with a number of council meetings which were due to take place this week being reorganised.

The council had initially said that it was not going to amend any meetings but announced today that the Cabinet meeting due to be held on Wednesday (Sept 14th) had been postponed.

In addition the council has also moved the full council meeting which was set to take place on Tuesday September 20th to the following day.

It has also been announced that a scheduled Meet The Leader event which was due to be held in Wadebridge on Monday (Sept 19th) has also been cancelled as that is the day of The Queen's funeral and a bank holiday.

Over on the Isles of Scilly the Council has cancelled all public meetings and events during the national period of mourning. This includes a full council meeting which was due to be held on Thursday (Sept 15th) and had been due to discuss the proposed new scheme for new ships to serve the islands.

Explaining the decision to postpone the Cornwall Council Cabinet meeting leader Linda Taylor said: "Although the work of Cornwall Council has not stopped, it feels inappropriate to hold a cabinet meeting during a period of national mourning.

“We will reschedule the meeting as quickly as possible, and will inform everyone of the new date as soon as possible".

The full council meeting which had been due to be held on Tuesday September 20th has been shifted to 10.30am on Wednesday September 21st.

The meeting will be held in the Council Chamber at New County Hall and will also be livestreamed online.

No indication has yet been given about whether a scheduled meeting for the council's strategic planning committee on Thursday (Sept 15th) will be going ahead.
