'Freedom day': Cornwall Council urges us to keep wearing face masks on public transport
The local authority has issued advice and guidance as the last remaining Covid restrictions are lifted on Monday (19th July)
People in Cornwall are being urged to keep wearing face masks in potententially crowded areas beyond 'freedom day', including public transport.
The local authority and its Publice Health team has issued advice and guidance as the last coronavirus restrictions are lifted.
They say masks are the safe choice for anyone over the age of 11 who is using buses, trains or taxis.
Officials have confirmed that GWR will expect people to wear a covering on board trains and inside stations.
Cornwall Airport Newquay will also request the same in the airport terminals.
Cornwall Council said: "The Government and our Public Health team's recommendation is for people to continue to wear a face covering in potentially crowded and confined areas when restrictions are eased from 19th July.
"This includes public transport so when you're travelling by bus, train or taxi, or if you are a young person over the age of eleven travelling on dedicated school transport, the safe choice is to wear a face covering to protect yourself and others.
"If you can, please plan your journey to try to avoid busy times. The bus companies will be doing their bit by keeping buses well ventilated and clean with signs encouraging passengers to wear a face covering unless exempt.
"In line with Government advice, GWR will expect people to wear a face covering when on board trains and throughout the station environment.
"Cornwall Airport Newquay will also request that passengers wear a face covering in the airport terminals".
