A Cornish secondary school has addressed rumours about an incident involving a student with a knife yesterday (Wednesday 16 November).

Camborne Science and International Academy have denied the rumours and say that "no weapons or banned items were involved at any time".

A statement from the school said: "There are a number of rumours circulating about a situation that occurred in our school yesterday and we appreciate the support of our community in helping to prevent any further miscommunication.

"The details are as follows: Camborne Science and International Academy requested the support of the police because a student was persistently not following instructions and impacting on learning and the smooth operation of the school; no weapons or banned items were involved at any time.

"The police were involved in the interests of the student concerned. Please be reassured that if the matter was a more serious incident the school would have contacted all parents and carers to inform them yesterday; there is no cause for concern and students should attend school today as normal."

Devon and Cornwall Police tell us they attended and say a verbally abusive male pupil was returned home.
