It is understood a high number of coronavirus cases is the reason another primary school in Cornwall has had to close.

Mithian School near St Agnes says it has followed advice from Public Health England.

Bosses at the Truro and Penwith Academy Trust, which runs the school, say it was a "difficult decision" but they want to "ensure everyone's safety".

Pupils have switched to remote learning, ahead of the school's reopening on Monday (October 4th).

The news comes after Stithians C.P. School announced it was closing for 10 days due to Covid; it will also reopen on Monday.

In a statement issued to us on Wednesday (29th September), Truro and Penwith Academy Trust said: "The Trust is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all its staff, children and young people.

"Following advice from Public Health England we have taken the difficult decision to close Mithian School.

"Parents/Guardians have received communication from the school and children are receiving remote learning.

"The school will reopen on 4th October 2021".

Cornwall was designated an 'Enhanced Response Area' for coronavirus following a summer spike in case rates.

However the special Covid status is due to end on Friday October 1st, following what Cornwall Council's Public Health Team described as a substantial drop in cases.
