The Cornish Pirates' match on New Year's Day has been postponed due to Covid cases.

They were due to face Ealing Trailfinders away in round 14 of the Championship on 1st January.

The decision to postpone the fixture has been taken by the Rugby Football Union after coronavirus cases were reported within the Cornish Pirates playing squad.

The interim decision follows the detailed medical protocols in place to ensure that the health and wellbeing of all players and support staff is protected.

The Disputes Committee will meet soon to determine next steps.

Commenting on behalf of the Cornish Pirates, CEO Rebecca Thomas said:

“It is unfortunate after two postponed games over recent weeks that we now find ourselves facing a third postponement, on this occasion due to multiple covid cases within our playing squad.

“Wishing everyone a safe and happy new year and we will be back in 2022!”

It is the third consecutive Cornish Pirates game to be postponed, following their scheduled matches against Hartpury on Boxing Day and Richmond on 18th December.

The Cornish Pirates are going into the new year sitting in third place in the league table.
