A Covid vaccination centre in Cornwall has dished out over 400 jabs in an unprecedented six hour period.

The team at Mount Hawke near St Agnes are being praised for their incredible efforts.

They smashed all records last weekend.

With the Omicron variant rapidly advancing across the UK, the demand for boosters and vaccinations has never been greater.

Vaccination teams across the Duchy have been working at pace to deliver vital support to our communities, putting in long hours and dedicated work to make sure that services are providing the best possible care and protection for ourselves, our loved ones, our colleagues, and our communities.

One group of colleagues that has really gone above and beyond in recent weeks is the team at the Mount Hawke vaccination site.

It comes after the site was a target of vandalism earlier in the autumn.

"During the past weekend, the Mount Hawke team had to cope with an unprecedented large number of walk-ins," explains Dr Rob White, GP partner, St Agnes Surgery.

"This meant that many colleagues had to stay late to make sure that everyone attending the centre had received their jab. It's thanks to the hard work and commitment of the team that we were able to vaccinate a total of 453 patients, smashing all records for numbers in a 6-hour period. Saturday’s total was 389 which, again, was a new record, so an amazing weekend of achievement, with a lot of patients receiving their first C-19 dose. This is a fantastic response, and great news for people in Cornwall."

Dr White continues: "The Mount Hawke site was the target of vandalism recently, which was incredibly disheartening to see. Fortunately, our team, supported by people in the local community, really pulled together to ensure that the site would be up and running again and capable of delivering much needed vaccinations during the latest wave of the pandemic. To see how quickly and efficiently the teams were working was truly humbling, and I’m sure you’ll agree we couldn’t be more grateful for the work of all our vaccination centres right across the county."

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust has this week reached its highest ever daily number of vaccinations, and is exceeding its target on the number of vaccines per day as they head toward the end of December deadline to encourage people to get their boosters.

For colleagues that are still needing their latest booster, or to get their Covid-19 vaccinations up to date, they have plenty of appointments across all vaccination centres, from now until 31st December.
