Cornish businessman organises two minute silence to honour Captain Sir Tom Moore
Dan Keddle from Liskeard says people across the UK are getting involved, from Scotland to the Isles of Scilly
A Cornish businessman is leading a two minute silence to honour Captain Sir Tom Moore.
The 100-year-old veteran died after recently testing positive for Coronavirus.
He raised millions for the NHS during the first lockdown, by walking laps of his garden.
Organiser Dan Keddle from Liskeard, who runs Bounce-Tastic Cornwall, tells us that the Royal British Legion will be flying flags at half-mast too.
We are being urged to join in at 2 o'clock today (Saturday 6th February).
It follows the #ClapForCaptainTom event, led by the Prime Minister, on Wednesday evening.
Dan tells us the idea came from discussions about how to honour people like Captain Tom on Remembrance Sunday.
"We need to be able to show him the respect that he deserves. Obviously Captain Tom was a war hero as well and he fought for his country.
"Planning it, well, it's to show so much respect for what he's done for us, not only for coronavirus and the NHS but for what he's done to serve his country so that we can all be here today".
Dan went on to say that since creating the event on Facebook, he has managed to get people across the UK involved - from Scotland to the Isles of Scilly!
"Shares on Facebook after I created the group has been absolutely phenomenal.
"I can tell you now we're over 270 thousand people that are interested in it through different shares".
Dan Keddle
The event is taking place at 2pm on Saturday 6th February.
