Cornish broadband provider launch Training Academy to offer skills in Cornwall
The launch of the facility at Wildanet will offer skills and training without the need to travel away from home
A Cornish broadband provider are launching a brand-new Training Academy to offer vital skills.
The launch of the facility at Wildanet - based in Liskeard - will offer career opportunities and training for current employees and new apprentices without the need to travel away from home.
Julie-Anne Sunderland, Chief People Officer at Wildanet, said:
"As an emerging and strong business in our community, we have a corporate responsibility to be a force for good around opportunities for good and meaningful employment."
According to the group, without travelling outside of the county, there has not been an opportunity until now for anyone in Cornwall to access the type of training facilities and programmes in telecommunications engineering.
It’s been described as ‘first’ for Cornwall and opens the door to a wealth of opportunities for the creation of new jobs and leading-edge training, to maintain the expert skills of the existing workforce.
Ian Carmichael, Head of Technical Academy, said:
"Currently what we're doing is looking to train up the next engineers of the future coming in. That's brand new engineers, people who have no engineering background whatsoever, to come in and learn how to do every aspect on the role.
"With Wildanet implementing its own academy, it's allowing us to provide a service back into Cornwall. We're actually training people in the county to have the skills so they will be able to develop and progress on through in the future."
Wildanet will be partnered with Truro and Penwith College to launch a new engineering career pathway through the Apprenticeship scheme.
