Cornish beach café holding 'toy amnesty' for Children's Hospice South West
Lusty Glaze Beach is collecting unwanted gifts throughout January
Doubled up on a present? Too many toys in the toy box post-Christmas? Lusty Glaze Beach is holding a ‘toy amnesty’ in January, where you can drop off unwanted or unneeded toys in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.
The team at Lusty Glaze is inviting people to donate toys, clothes, toiletries and other items to their drop-off point at the beach to support the local charity, which provides care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families.
Operations Manager Andi Millson said he is delighted to be running the campaign for the 4th year running.
He said: "After such a huge response in 2020, we’re so pleased to be supporting CHSW again this year.
"We are always in awe of how generous our local community are and so to say thank you, we’re giving everyone who brings a donation, big or small, a free tea or coffee at Lusty Glaze Beach".
Alice Merrett, Area Fundraiser for CHSW said: "The team at Lusty Glaze have been amazing with their ongoing support for CHSW.
"Every donation helps us in our mission to make the most of short and precious lives, and we really appreciate the time and effort they spend to support our work".
Last year, Lusty Glaze delivered an entire van-load of toys, games, clothes and other items to Little Harbour, CHSW’s beautiful home-from-home at Porthpean, where the charity provides care to children and families from across Cornwall and Plymouth.
Brand new toys from this year’s donations will remain at the hospice, whilst pre-loved items will be distributed to the charity’s shops.
Andi Millson continued, "This is a cause that’s incredibly close to our hearts, and is needed more than ever at this time of year. We want to do all we can to help families in the most difficult of circumstances make the most of their time together."
"Our heartfelt thanks go to our local community who are always so generous in supporting good causes and pulling together to look after those in need - which is all the more impressive after the how difficult the past couple of years have been for everyone".
Little Harbour provides specialist respite, palliative, emergency, end-of-life and bereavement care to children unexpected to live into adulthood and their families.
Currently supporting over 145 families, the hospice faces running costs of over £3 million a year - the majority of which come from donations made by the local community.
To support the toy amnesty, bring your unneeded or unwanted toys, clothing items, toiletries and other amenities for children up to the age of 16, down to the Lusty Glaze Beach in January and enjoy a free hot drink in return.
The Lusty Glaze Café is open Monday-Saturday from 9.30am-4pm to receive donations.
