Consultation begins over new plans for Cornwall Airport Newquay
It's hoped it'll bring skilled jobs and economic growth
Cornwall Council is set to undertake a public consultation on the emerging plans to secure the long-term future of Cornwall Airport Newquay and the development of the surrounding land to create skilled jobs and promote economic growth.
It will run for a two-week period from 12-26 September, and will start with engagement with the Chamber of Commerce and continue with meetings with the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Economic Forum and Business Improvement Districts from across Cornwall in order to get feedback on the developing plans and how they contribute to economic growth.
Members of the public will be able to engage with the process via the Council’s ‘Lets Talk Cornwall’ platform between 12-26 September, or by dropping in to talk to members of the project team at New County Hall between 9am and noon on Saturday, 14 September and 1pm to 4pm at Newquay Library on the same day.
The consultation follows the Cabinet’s decision in June to select Adynaton as preferred bidder for a potential partnership and the work that has been undertaken since, including the development of a Land Use Blueprint for the Airport Estate.
Councillor Louis Gardner said: “No decision has yet been taken to proceed with a joint venture and negotiations are still ongoing before a final decision is made in the Autumn.
"However, as set out by Cabinet in June we have been working with Adynaton and Westcore on a high-level Land Use Blueprint which will inform the potential partnership and as promised we will make this available for people to see.
“The plans, of course, will align with Cabinets commitment to prioritise and secure the future operation of Cornwall Airport Newquay and develop the surrounding land and business park to create jobs and economic growth.”
It should be noted that any future development will be subject to the usual planning process and related consultation and application process and that the LUB is a strategic document which will set out the vision for the airport only.
