Police have received a report of a man allegedly harassing women along the coast path near St Austell.

Officers say no attempt of physical contact was made but the behaviour was inappropriate.

A man voluntarily attended a police station following circulation of a social media post.

He was given strong words of advice by police and we're told he apologised.

Our force says no further action is necessary at this time but they are urging people to make sure they report any such incidents.

A police spokesperson said: “We have received a report of a man harassing women near costal paths in the St Austell area of Cornwall earlier this month.

"Whilst no attempt of physical contact was made, it’s clear that this behaviour was inappropriate and was recorded as a crime of harassment and local officers were made aware of this matter and information circulated.

“Linked to this, a social media post was shared far and wide and a man who police wished to speak to in connection to this incident voluntarily attended a police station.

“He has since been given strong words of advice in relation to his behaviour and the individual apologised.

“Police will continue to monitor this situation but at this time, further policing action isn’t necessary.

“As ever, please report any such incidents to the police at the earliest opportunity, and if you feel in immediate danger always call 999.”
