Charlestown pub to reopen their doors at end of March after huge fire
Further refurbishments at the Pier House Hotel will take place at the end of the year
The Pier House Hotel in Charlestown is set to partly reopen it's doors at the end of this month after a huge fire broke out in January.
The pub and the Harbourside next door both suffered significant fire and water damage from the blaze - after crews and appliances were rushed to the scene on 20 January.
They both will partly reopen on the evening of Wednesday 29 March at 5pm.
Andrew Turner, chief operating officer at St Austell Brewery, said: "The fire damage is significant and if were to have kept it closed, it'd probably be closed between 12 and 18 months.
"The fact we can reopen part of it, we can get people back inside, enjoying drink and food. It's important to us and as we've heard it's very very important to the local community too".
St Austell Brewery held a public meeting with locals last night (Tuesday 14 March) to discuss their plans for restoring the venue:
"We've been overwhelmed by the engagement by the local community, it shows the sense of pride and the community in Charlestown so we want to repay that by reopening our doors as soon as we can".
They told us in the meeting that they plan to close the venue again at the end of October for a multi-million pound refurbishment - where plans are still yet to be announced - to bring the Pier House back to its "former glory".
Andrew Turner added: "We want to restore it to it's former glory but improve the offer of the pub, give it a familiar feel. Broadly a five to six month refurbishment, we hope to reopen fully ahead of Easter 2024 in what will hopefully a stunning pub".
The pub and hotel remains fully closed until the 29th.
