Casualty rushed to hospital after vehicle overturns in Cornwall crash

The collision blocked the A390 at Drakewalls near Gunnislake for several hours

One person has ended up in hospital after a crash on one of the main roads in east Cornwall.

They were trapped and had to be cut free after a vehicle overturned near Gunnislake, blocking the A390 for several hours.

Firefighters from Callington and Tavistock were scrambled to Drakewalls on Saturday (13th November), along with a specialist crash rescue team from Bodmin.

Police and paramedics were also called just after 6pm, when the casualty was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service said crews made the scene safe before handing over to police.

They said: "At 1810, Critical control received a call to a road traffic collision with one person trapped in a vehicle.

"Crews from Callington, Tavistock and a specialist appliance from Bodmin were mobilised, alongside a wholetime officer.

"On arrival crews assisted ambulance to release one casualty from an overturned vehicle. Ambulance and Police were also in attendance.

"Once the casualty was rescued and transported to hospital by ambulance, crews made the scene safe and handed the scene to the police".
