Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service says a reported caravan fire with people trapped inside was a malicious call.

Firefighters from Tolvaddon, Falmouth and Truro were scrambled on Tuesday afternoon (12th October).

Officials say that meant three fire engines were unavailable to respond to potentially life-threatening emergencies.

Devon & Cornwall Police have been informed about the incident.

It comes after it was revealed the Duchy's fire service is considering charging for false alarm calls.

In a statement about Tuesday's incident, Cornwall Fire & Rescue said: "Three crews from Tolvaddon, Falmouth and Truro, along with two flexi-duty officers, responded to a caravan fire with persons inside.

"The first attending resources quickly discovered that this was a malicious call.

"During this period, three fire appliances were unable to respond to potentially life-threatening emergencies.

"Devon & Cornwall Police have been made aware".
