Pay and display machines have gone in at Cornwall’s main hospitals, but we bosses say the move is temporary.

A new company is taking over the running of car parks at Treliske, St Michael's and the west Cornwall.

They are switching to automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and when that is installed, trust bosses say prices will stay the same as before.

In a statement, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust said: "Public and staff car parks at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals are being upgraded over the next few weeks, as we move to number plate recognition technology.

"Saba UK has taken over management of the car parks at Royal Cornwall, St Michael's and West Cornwall hospitals on behalf of RCHT from this month.

"RCHT will oversee the contract and Saba will be making improvements across all three sites to make parking as quick and easy as possible.

“There are no changes to parking charges for visitors or staff, with continued free parking for many, including blue badge holders, those in receipt of qualifying benefits, and night shift workers.

"Although pay and display machines are temporarily in operation in public car parks whilst the new barriers are put in place, these are in the process of being replaced with 'pay on exit' machines".
