A busy road through Truro has been partially closed after a car 'crashed into a house'.

The closure is in place along St Clements Street, between the Chinese takeaway and Old Chapel Cellars.

The collision happened on Tuesday afternoon and caused serious damage to the property.

Officers say the driver left the scene but has since made himself known to police.

Firefighters were also called to assess the scene and make it safe.

A fencing barrier has been put in place outside the front of the house and cars have been directed away from the scene.

A cordon, cones and road signs have all been put up too.

The road closure has been causing traffic problems for commuters across the morning.

Officers say the road will be closed for the foreseeable future whilst structural checks are carried out.

As of Wednesday morning work has started to try and repair the damage to the property.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were contacted at around 4pm on Tuesday 23rd November with reports of a single vehicle collision involving a Volkswagen car having collided with a building on St Clements Street, Truro; the driver subsequently left the scene.

"The building had sustained serious damage and Fire were called to assist with assessing the building and to make the area safe.

"Closures are in place on Clements Street and will remain in place for the foreseeable future whilst structural checks of the property take place.

"A male claiming to be the driver of the vehicle has since made himself known to police and enquiries continue into this matter."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could aid with the investigation is asked to email police on 101@dc.police.uk quoting log number 496 23rd November.
