Firefighters have been tackling a car and trailer fire on the A30 in Cornwall.

Teams from St Dennis and Newquay were called to the scene near Highgate Hill this morning (Wednesday 14 August).

Lane one eastbound between the A39 and A391 remains closed and National Highways say it is expected to remain that way throughout today.

The carriageway will be shut overnight to allow for the resurfacing to be carried out.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: "Appliances from St Dennis and Newquay are in attendance at vehicle and trailer on fire on the A30 near Highgate Hill.

"Crews are using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire."

A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 5.10am on Wednesday 14 August following reports of a vehicle and trailer fire on the A30 near Indian Queens.

"A road closure was put in place. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service also attended and extinguished the fire.

"Recovery and clean-up work is ongoing. Nobody was injured during the incident."
