One of the main B-roads to Wadebridge remains closed this morning, after a vehicle struck a bridge.

Photos posted on social media have revealed the scale of the damage to Trewornan Bridge on the B3314.

The incident happened on Sunday morning (15th May), however the road is expected to stay shut for some time.

It is being reported that there are fears that the structure could be close to collapse.

Traffic and travel site, Inrix, says the road is closed in both directions between the junctions for Gonvena Hill and the Chapel Amble turn-off, adding: "The bridge needs to assessed".

North Cornwall MP Scott Mann has shared a post by councillor Carol Mould, stating: "The bridge has been assessed and the decision made to close.

"Because any alternative routes have to be similar to the closed road, the official diversion is through Delabole and Camelford.

"However because so many local people choose to use the route through Chapel Amble I have agreed with Highways to suggest that if you are travelling TO Wadebridge you got through Chapel Amble and if you are travelling FROM Wadebridge you turn left in Chapel Amble and go through Lower Amble to join the B3314 at Gut Bridge, this will keep the traffic flowing in the same direction.

"Please take care as this will cause disruption to the residents of Amble and Lower Amble".

She continued: "If the assessment of the bridge results is a longer closure I have asked that the above route is made an official alternative.

"I am also aware Wadebridge School begins its GCSE exams tomorrow so getting to school will be a must.

"Can I ask that if you can delay a journey until later in the day, or car share to reduce the volume of traffic first thing in the morning it will be appreciated.

"I will post again as and when I get the updates.

"Let’s hope the damage is not to severe and the bridge can reopen ASAP".
