Royal Navy bomb squad called to Cornish school to dispose of 'hazardous substance'

It is understood a controlled explosion has been carried out at a secondary school site in north Cornwall.

Devon and Cornwall Police were called to Launceston College on Thursday morning, after a suspected hazardous material was found.

The Royal Navy's bomb squad was drafted in to dispose of the substance safely.

Locals reported hearing a loud bang in the area, sharing their concerns on social media.

"Police attended Launceston College at around 11.30am this morning to assist the Royal Navy’s EOD team which was tasked with the safe disposal of a suspected hazardous substance."
