Bodyboarder in hospital after getting into difficulty in sea in St Ives

Emergency services and a coastguard helicopter were called

A bodyboarder has been taken to hospital after getting into difficulty in the sea at a beach in St Ives.

Police, ambulance crews, coastguard teams and a rescue helicopter were all called to Porthmeor on Monday evening (28th March).

There were concerns for a man in the water, who had been seen on a bodyboard, and he was treated at the scene.

He was then airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where he remains.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency spokesperson said: "At approximately 6pm yesterday (28th March), HM Coastguard’s assistance was requested by the South Western Ambulance Service in an incident at Porthmeor Beach, St Ives.

"St Ives Coastguard Rescue Team were sent alongside the Coastguard helicopter from Newquay.

"The helicopter winched the casualty for onward travel to the Royal Cornwall Hospital."

A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson added: "Emergency services were called to Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, shortly before 6pm last night following concern for a male in the water.

"He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital by the ambulance service, where he remains."
