Body found in searches for missing woman from St Austell area

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious

Police have confirmed that a body has been found in searches for a missing woman from the St Austell area.

Emergency services and the police helicopter were drafted into searches after a woman in her 60s was reported missing on Tuesday.

Officers say a body was found in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The family of the missing woman have been told about the discovery but formal identification has not yet taken place.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Devon & Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police searching for a missing woman from St Austell have today 23 February located the body of a person.

"The woman, in her 60s, was reported missing yesterday afternoon 22 February.

"Officers have been carrying out searches with the assistance of other emergency services and the police helicopter.

"The body of a woman was located in the St Austell area in the early hours of this morning.

"The family of the missing woman has been informed about the discovery. Formal identification has not yet taken place.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner."
