Body found following house fire in south east Cornwall

The blaze near Torpoint over the bank holiday is being treated as 'unexplained'

A person has died following a house fire in south east Cornwall.

It is understood that a young man was missing after an unexplained blaze near Torpoint.

It broke out in the Deviock area on Sunday afternoon (29th August) and the property is said to have suffered extensive damage.

Now officers have confirmed that a body was found at the property.

In a statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: "After a dwelling fire on Sunday 29th August 2021, police and fire services recovered a deceased person from the property.

"The family have been informed.

"Police enquiries remain ongoing and officers are in liaison with Her Majesty’s Coroner and providing support to the family."
