A mural in Bodmin that was created to pay tribute to key workers and the NHS has been vandalised.

The artwork featured a rainbow, a red heart and a nurse wearing a face mask and Wonderwoman crown.

There was also a nod to Captain Sir Tom Moore, with his words 'tomorrow will be a good day' over the St Piran's flag.

It was designed and painted by local Harry Maddox, who owns Avalon Signs and Graphics, who had been wanting to produce a tribute since the pandemic began.

He said it was a 'thank you from the people of Bodmin to everyone who has kept us going during lockdown'.

But on Thursday the artwork was vandalised and had an anti-vaccination message graffitied over the top.

The mural has now been covered up, Harry says it is a temporary measure until he decides what to do next.

Posting on Facebook, he said: "Sorted for now, I didn't want kids reading that.

"One or two people might not understand what I've done here.

"I don't do political statements and I won't allow this to be turned into one, I could have just painted over the graffiti with cream paint but you can be pretty sure I'd have to do it again tomorrow, this is not very pretty but it is is a temporary measure until I decide what to do next."
