Bodmin fire that triggered multiple 999 calls believed to be arson

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service believes a vehicle fire in Bodmin that triggered seventeen 999 calls was arson.

Firefighters rushed to Burden Close on Monday night, to find it well alight.

Crews wore specialist breathing equipment and used hose reel jets to douse the blaze.

They believe it was started on purpose and the incident has been handed over to Devon and Cornwall Police.

Anyone who saw what happened shortly before 10.30pm is being urged to contact officers via 101.

Cornwall FRS said: "At 22:23 we received the first of seventeen 999 calls reporting a vehicle on fire.

"An appliance was mobilised from Bodmin and arrived to find one vehicle well alight.

"Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.

"The cause is believed to be arson and the incident has been handed over to Devon and Cornwall Police for further investigation.

"Anyone with information can contact police on 101 or anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting Log 742 21/03/22".
