Police have confirmed that the bodies of two divers who went missing off the Cornish coast have been recovered.

The pair were part of a planned dive at the shipwreck of HMS Scylla off the coat at Whitsand Bay in September.

A third diver managed to get to safety and raise the alarm, he was treated for decompression in Plymouth.

Extensive searches were carried out when the two other men failed to resurface, involving police dive teams and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Now officers have confirmed that both bodies have been recovered this week.

The families have been told and are being supported by police.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The bodies of two divers, who failed to return to the surface while taking part in a planned dive at HMS Scylla on 3 September, have been recovered.

"One of the men, aged 40, from Plymouth, was found and recovered on 15 September.

"The second man, aged 49, from Saltash, was found and recovered on 12 October.

"Both men’s next-of-kin have been informed and the deaths are not being treated as suspicious.

"Files are being prepared for the coroner and police continue to support the families of both divers."
