The main entertainment gets underway at Boardmasters from today (Friday 11 August).

Lorde will headline the festival this evening, with special guests Ben Howard and Cypress Hill.

Liam Gallagher and Florence and the Machine fill the other top spots this weekend.

People have been arriving in Newquay for the event since Wednesday, with over 50,000 people expected to attend.

Devon and Cornwall Police will be on hand to help organisers make sure it runs smoothly, with extra patrols taking place.

The festival - which runs until Sunday (13 August) - takes place across two sites: the main arena and camping is situated on a clifftop at Watergate Bay and the surfing competition is held on Fistral Beach.

Newquay Business Improvement District (BID) Manager, Mark Warren, says it's a "huge thing for Cornwall": "The transport systems, Cornwall Airport Newquay, everybody benefits from it and all the extra revenue that comes."

The festival was founded in 1981 as a surfing competition and has since expanded to include music acts.
